a little catch up

the school holidays are nearly over! smallest starts his new school tomorrow! and big one goes back next week. all been very busy around here with trips and outings, theres been very little time for creating, not sure I can remember how to spend longer than 20mins on a task anymore!!!

I have been continuing to play with my paper moths, this time incorporating fabirc, playing with exposing certain elements of the maps and book pages as detail, my thinking here is about creating a large moth quilt or garment?? not sure but these are some playing with that in mind.

I have also been doing a lot of research on screen printing as Im convinced thats my next big project!!! need a serious cash injection to get started though!

Im hoping to spend a good few hours in studio at the end of this week once smallest is at school ( only for mornings for 6 weeks!!)

hope to be a bit more on the ball from now on but I always hope for that!!

hope all are well

Helen Roberts work

I seem to be on a roll for finding wonderful artists making exciting work and I really want to share my finds with you all - although I'm sure some of you will already have made these discoveries!!
The latest is Helen Roberts - Helen describes herself as a graduate in Contemparary Crafts, working with textiles and ceramics, she uses a variety of techniques to produce mixed media imagery based pieces.

1. Board 1 close up., 2. Handmade Felt with Screen print., 3. Screen Printed Postcard Samples, 4. Large Postcard Canvas., 5. Vintage Embroidered Postcards., 6. Porcelain Glove Impression., 7. Lace Doilies Set 1 Close Up, 8. Map Set 2, 9. Postcard Box

I love the work she has done with maps and postcards, stitching the lines of the map and the hand written letters on the postcards. I  see it as retracing the steps of journey from the past and re writing all those words from lives past, I cant help but think of the stories behinds these journeys , wonderful evocative work.
Her ceramic work using delicate fabrics, laces and silks to make impressions with in porcelain are a wonderfully playing with ideas of fragility.
I hope you enjoy her work too xxxx

Mapping Moths

Im continuing to play with my mothy ideas, the last stitches were interesting but not quite doing it for me, I loved their colors, which hinted at the moths delicate structure but the heavy canvas & stitching made them feel dead and unreal.
I have ideas about light bulbs and some kind of installation with many moths flying around, which lead me to paper! as usual I have a huge pile of vintage paper, book pages and maps,  on my desk, it seems perfect to try a few moth shapes out.
a few pages from my sketchbook

Im going to keep making these till I have ahuge pile then play with constructing a few different installation/displays. xxx

(Still haven't found time to get a bit bigger yet......hubby off next week so may be able to grab a bit of time making big marks...)
