Moth dress

I have had a very overwhelming and exhausting week!! all is OK now but much drama! I wont go into detail but it involved nursing my father after his prostate surgery and my car being written off on his drive!!!!! not what we needed at all. My father is recovering well and the car will be replace but a big week of highs and lows....I only mention it all as an explanation of my absence for the blogging world.

During all this drama I have been creating ( if in a bit of a blur) before I went to Dads I created a little dress, just a basic night dress shape, I wanted to cover it in my map moths as if they were literally eating their way out of the dress and flying off.

The piece evolved all by itself, I really love it but I think it needs development, more moths- the direction of their flight etc.
Im glad everyone seemed to enjoy my interview with Bridget Farmer I will defiantly be doing more interviews, I have a few lined up so watch this space - if anyone has interesting questions they would like to put to the artists do let me know. just in case you didnt know Bridget also interviewed me over on her blog go take a look if you fancy. xx

a little catch up

the school holidays are nearly over! smallest starts his new school tomorrow! and big one goes back next week. all been very busy around here with trips and outings, theres been very little time for creating, not sure I can remember how to spend longer than 20mins on a task anymore!!!

I have been continuing to play with my paper moths, this time incorporating fabirc, playing with exposing certain elements of the maps and book pages as detail, my thinking here is about creating a large moth quilt or garment?? not sure but these are some playing with that in mind.

I have also been doing a lot of research on screen printing as Im convinced thats my next big project!!! need a serious cash injection to get started though!

Im hoping to spend a good few hours in studio at the end of this week once smallest is at school ( only for mornings for 6 weeks!!)

hope to be a bit more on the ball from now on but I always hope for that!!

hope all are well

Mapping Moths

Im continuing to play with my mothy ideas, the last stitches were interesting but not quite doing it for me, I loved their colors, which hinted at the moths delicate structure but the heavy canvas & stitching made them feel dead and unreal.
I have ideas about light bulbs and some kind of installation with many moths flying around, which lead me to paper! as usual I have a huge pile of vintage paper, book pages and maps,  on my desk, it seems perfect to try a few moth shapes out.
a few pages from my sketchbook

Im going to keep making these till I have ahuge pile then play with constructing a few different installation/displays. xxx

(Still haven't found time to get a bit bigger yet......hubby off next week so may be able to grab a bit of time making big marks...)

Moth WIPs

Loads of them keep flying out of my machine, but Im not really sure what to do with them all???

I feel the need to get the paints out very soon to much stitching makes my head hurt!
I also need a bit of a scale change as well- I love working small as its very intimate but my art school training is always shouting in my ear 'get bigger small is to domestic!'(and thats bad why??)

Still right or wrong I feel the need to move my arms a bit and make some big marks ......we will see if the half term hols allows this.

another thread

Half-term holidays here, only part of a week done and we are all driving each other mad already!!!
Hey Ho Im sure it will get better, we just need a bit of a plan!
Im finding very little time as predicted to really sit down and get on with some work, I just keep snatching a hour here and there.
Still got book page ideas floating around in my head, I need a new stock of books to play with and a bit of drawing time to sort out some ideas, maybe next week I can spend a little time on this.

I have another thread of ideas starting to grow, I decided to start a new sketch book to build up ideas in and just see where it goes, here are a few images from said sketch book.
MOTHS
I have made a few backgrounds on fabric to stitch over and like the idea of displaying these pinned into box frames, but we will see how they turn out first.

nearly at 100 follower Im thinking of a give away to celebrate?? I will take a look around my studio and see if theres anything I think you might like xxxxx
